コンセプト

WomanとManあるいはWomanの中のmanの一本の斜線がくっつくことで、性別の区別とボーダーを曖昧にし、全ての性と共存することを意味します。「女性」から始まる問題提起をフェミニズムの観点やジェンダーの不均衡による権利獲得運動の機運を盛り上げるのではなく、現在までに定義されてきた「女性」という存在を生物学的／社会的に現代アートで問いただし、新たな視点で私たちを取り巻く社会を考察します。

インターディシプリナリー・アート・フェスティバル・トウキョウは、2014年から2020年まで、毎年、開催時期をあえて定めず、地域を限定せず、東京を中心に、韓国、台湾、シンガポール、マレーシア、UK、デンマーク、アルゼンチン等の作家、映画祭やインディペンデントに活動する団体とエクスチェンジプログラムやコラボレーションを行い、現代アートの展示、映像上映、パフォーマンス、演劇、トーク、レクチャーやワークショップを行ってきました。
今回のIAFT19/20は、「女性」というワードを改めて問い直すことから、人間の性全体について考えます。2019年5月、「pre-IAFT19/20」（東京）からスタートし、2019年10月は「IAFT in EUK」（ウェールズ・ロンドン・北アイルランド・コペンハーゲン）を実施しました。海外の各アート団体、キュレーターやアーティストと共に東京の中心地、表参道・渋谷・日本橋エリアで2020年3月20日(金・祝)から3月29日(日)まで現在的なアート作品を紹介いたします。

ジヌック・サルカール　Jhinuk Sarkar (イギリス)
ジヌック・サルカールは、ロンドンに住むアーティストであり、イラストレーターである。また、障害を持つアーティストの講師を勤める。15年以上、クリエイティブなワークショップの経験があり、障害を持つアーティストの研究と実践、サポートをしてきた。

シネイド・オドネルは、2012年ロンドンオリンピック・パラリンピックの公式文化プロジェクト「Unlimited」の一環として、実施された「CAUTION」のリードアーティストおよびキュレーターであり、現在は北アイルランドのベルファストにあるFlax Arts Studiosのアーティストである。女性に課せられた制約に関して、自分の体を使って自分自身と文化の境界の両方を探求する。

▶IAFTのメインプロジェクトである映像とオーディオ・ヴィジュアル・パフォーマンスの祭典。IAFT19/20では、「女・女性」をテーマにした映像をキュレーション。一筋縄ではいかない、現在的アプローチの各映像作品を通じて有性生殖を行う生物としての人間の性をあらためて問い直します。

リオル・シャムリッツ　Lior Shamriz (アメリカ)
1978年地中海東部アシュケロン生まれ。アシュケロンにて映画および音楽制作を開始。パフォーマンス行為として映画というメディアを用い、また、現実を言語化する方法、それ自体を疑うプロセスとして映画言語を用いながら、エッセイのようなナレーションをベースにした映像を制作する。現在はロサンゼルスに拠点を置く。

デビッド・セバスチャン・ロペス・レストレポ　David Sebastian Lopez Restrepo (デンマーク)
彼の作品は、コロンビア領事館の「Artists abroad bank」に所蔵されている。現在、デンマークのコペンハーゲンに住み、デンマークの芸術財団（StatensKunstFond）の支援を受けて、2017年からthe International performance art festival Body Landscapesを組織し、キュレーションしている。現代アート団体のPerformance køkkenetのディレクターである。

生活のためのアート・デザイン・移動

西山修平　Shuhei Nishiyama (日本)
映像というメディアの考察を通じて、映像化された世界を映像の論理に基づき解体し、表象する。VIDEOの最小単位である１ピクセル、1フレームごとに映像と音声を切り刻み、時間と空間を再構成する作品を制作し、国内外にて発表している。

韓成南　Sung Nam Han (日本)
ブルーバックによるキーイングという映像合成技術を用いた鑑賞者参加型のインスタレーション、ウェアラブルな映像作品やポケッタブルな映像を見ることについて考察した作品を制作する。AR作品の展示や「スーパーリニア」という概念をもとに制作した映像x演劇xダンスのアートパフォーマンスを上演する等、活動は多岐に渡る。現在、自身が立ち上げたInterdisciplinary Art Festival TokyoおよびArt in Country of Tokyoの代表を務める。

久保友香　Yuka Kubo (日本)
東京大学大学院新領域創成科学研究科博士課程修了。博士(環境学)。専門はメディア環境学。東京大学先端科学技術研究センター特任助教、東京工科大学メディア学部講師など歴任。著書に『「盛り」の誕生』（太田出版、2019年）。

▶1990年代、渋谷に現れた、日焼け肌に茶髪の「ギャル」ファッション。2000年代、つけまつげやカラコン、プリクラやガラケーの自撮りで作られた「デカ目」顔。2010年代、スマホで撮影した、異様なほど色鮮やかな「インスタ映え」写真。日本の女の子たちが行うビジュアル表現は、大人にはいささか不可解なこともあるが、それらはいかにして生まれるのだろうか？日本の女の子たちの「盛り」文化を、メディア・テクノロジーの革新との関係から、ひも解きます。

Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo インターディシプリナリー・アート・フェスティバル・トウキョウ
Interdisciplinary Artという観点で、発表の場や観客が固定されてしまう現状を打破し、ジャンルに依拠しない活動を行うアーティストを発掘、そして新たな観客や価値を創造するために、Far East Audio Visual Socialization(FEAVS)が母体となり、2009年に設立しました。演劇とも言えず、音楽のライブとも断言できず、映画の上映会に限らない等、様々なジャンルを横断し表現活動を行うアーティストをフィーチャーし、よりダイナミックで現代社会に即したアートフェスティバルを行うことで、新たな価値をクリエイトし、人と人とをつなぐことを目的としています。

Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo 19/20

Concept
‘wm’ is a subtitle highlighting the diagonal line that sticks between “Woman and Man” or “man within Woman.” It presents the ambiguous gender distinctions and borders that coexist with all genders. The purpose of the theme “women” is not only to highlight the momentum of the rights movement through feminist perspectives and gender imbalances, to rethink the definition of ‘ women.’ How can the existence of women be redefined in biological and social terms to create alternative perceptions from now on? For this year’s IAFT we will address this whilst we examine the society surrounding us, asking questions from contemporary art to form new perspectives.

Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo (IAFT) is an annual event that began in 2014. With no specific date in each year or area limitations to the festival’s location, IAFT takes place mainly in Tokyo, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, UK, Denmark and Argentina.
IAFT facilitates exchange programs and collaborations with artists, film festivals, independent organisations, and has performed contemporary art exhibitions, video screenings, performances, plays, talks, lectures and workshops.
This year, IAFT19/20 reminds us of the whole human gender, triggered by “women”. In May 2019, we started with “pre-IAFT19/20” (Tokyo), and in October 2019 we held “IAFT in EUK” (Wales, London, Northern Ireland and Copenhagen). IAFT will introduce art works and performance arts with overseas art groups, curators and artists in the central Tokyo area of Omotesando, Shibuya, and Nihonbashi from March 20 (Fri. / holiday) to March 29 (Sun.), 2020.

▶Jhinuk Sarkar from the UK will be invited to perform art workshops for people with disabilities. Enjoy the differences of approaches to sensory experiences between UK and Japan using gender neutral bodies as a focus and to promote international exchange.

Jhinuk Sarkar (UK)
Jhinuk Sarkar is an Artist, Illustrator, Lecturer and Educator living in London. She has 15 years of experience of teaching creative workshops and has supported disabled artists’ practices for almost 10 years at all stages of their study and careers. Jhinuk currently advises on inclusivity and access at Turf Projects, an artist-led gallery and studio space in Croydon, South London. At Turf Projects, she also supports the artistic practice of Makers Of Stuff Squad (MOSS). MOSS are a learning disabled artist collective based in Croydon. Jhinuk’s Illustration practice uses inks, hand drawn text to address humour, identity and travelling in search of a sense of belonging in her work.

Sinéad O’Donnell (Northern Ireland) [screening at IKI-BA]
Sinéad O’Donnell is an Irish performance artist working extensivly across the world. She was lead artist and curator for an ‘Unlimited’ commission entitled CAUTION as part of the London 2012 Festival and is currently a Flax Arts Studios artist, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Sinéad won the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Major Award in 2017/18. Her work explores identity, borders and barriers through encounters with territory and the territorial. She sets up actions or situations that demonstrate complexities, contradictions or commonality between medium and discipline, timing and spontaneity, intuition and methodology, artist and audience. She often uses her body to investigate both her own and cultural boundaries, particularly in relation to the restrictions placed on women. Despite deliberately avoiding the sensationalisation of the body, her works often promote strong reactions and emotions.

▶IAFT19/20 curated videos on the theme of “Women and Women”. We will re-examine the human sex as a sexual reproduction through each piece of video, but with a modern approach.

Lior Shamriz (the U.S.)

B 1978/. Lior Shamriz is a film director, visual artist, and musician. Born in Ashkelon, Israel, he dropped out of the army at nineteen and moved to Tel Aviv, where he began making films and experimenting with computer-generated music and collective art publications. After living a decade in Berlin, he is now based in California. Shamriz presented his films at numerous festivals including Berlinale, Locarno, Sarajevo, MoMA’s ND/NF, BAFICI, and won multiple awards at Oberhausen.

David Sebastian Lopez Restrepo (Denmark)

Colombian Artist born in Medellin, David Sebastian Lopez Restrepo studied Fine and Visual Arts at the Universidad Pedagógica y Tecnológica de Colombia (U.P.T.C.). Master in Combined Artistic Languages at Universidad Nacional de las Artes (U.N.A.), Argentina. His artworks have been presented in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Åland, Svalbard and in the Faroe Islands. His work is part of the Colombian Consulate’s “Artists abroad bank”. Currently, he lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, where he is the Director of Performance køkkenet an organisation of contemporary arts, organising and curating the International performance art festival Body Landscapes since 2017, with the support of the Danish Arts Foundation (StatensKunstFond).

I break up and represent the visualised world by the theory of video through thinking of video as media. I make the works that cut video and audio into pieces by 1 pixel and 1 frame and reorganise time and space to show works both within and outside Japan.

Sung Nam Han (Japan)

Director of Art in Country of Tokyo (AICOT) and Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo (IAFT),Sung Nam Han makes artworks around the theme of “What watching a video is”. Her work includes interactive art installations made using blue screen editing or ‘keying’, and wearable / pocketable video works utilising smartphones, small cameras or monitors. She has also created work using Augmented Reality ‘AR’ technology and performances focused on the concept of “super linear” which combine video, play and dance.

Yuka Kubo (Japan)
Doctor of Media Environmental Studies
She received the Ph.D.from the University of Tokyo. Her research interests is Media Environmental Studies.　She successively held posts such as Project Assistant Professor at Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology of The University of Tokyo,　and Full-time Lecturer at School of Media Science of Tokyo University of Technology. She wrote books “The Birth of ‘MORI” : Japanese Aesthetic Created by Girls and Technology” (Ohta Publishing, 2019).

Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo
In 2009 IAFT was founded, as a reincarnation of “Far East Audio Visual Socialization(FEAVS),” to shatter the current norm of fixed spaces and audiences; and to discover artists who create new values going beyond the borders of artistic practice. We feature artists who engage in interdisciplinary practice, creating new values that connect people by introducing more dynamic art festivals that reflects contemporary society. Our purpose is to provide new and free perspectives that enrich people with inspiration – expanding the opportunity for the artists to present their works, by introducing experimental and avant-garde art. We aim for both creators and viewers to mutually share their feedback with each other: build the foundation for new art, and rejuvenate the art scene by featuring innovative artists with clear concepts and new visions.
