Sat 5th October 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm

The Golden Thread Gallery is delighted to welcome Sung Nam Han, Director of ‘Art in Country of Tokyo’ (AICOT) and the Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo (IAFT) for an artist and curator’s talk in Belfast.

Sung Nam Han is the recent recipient of a prestigious research grant, enabling her to visit Belfast, Cardiff and London to share her insights into her work as an artist and organiser, and to meet other artists working with performance, moving image and time-based practices.

Sung Nam Han makes artworks around the theme of “What watching a video is”. Her work includes interactive art installations made using blue screen editing or ‘keying’, and wearable / pocketable video works utilising smartphones, small cameras or monitors. She has also created work using Augmented Reality ‘AR’ technology and performances focussed on the concept of “super linear” which combine video, play and dance. She is currently working on the development of the IAFT 2020 festival with a special focus on women.

This is a very special opportunity to hear from a renowned international artist and curator here in Belfast, and we hope you can join us.

■Outline of the project:
IAFT did the Interdisciplinary Art Festival Tokyo 19/20 in UK at three venues, in which we hold video AR workshops, performances, contemporary video art screenings in numerous places around the UK, together with organizations and curators based in Cardiff, Croydon and Belfast. Our goal is to contribute to the international exchange mediated by new media of art through introducing the interdisciplinary arts in Japan and Asia to the UK.
In the video AR workshop, all the participants in the workshop produced a video work using AR technology in which a short video is played when a photo is read with the app. In terms of performance, Sung Nam HAN performed a new Blue Back series in Copenhagen and Cardiff. At the Contemporary Art Screening & Lecture, IAFT introduced contemporary and experimental footage that could not be described as a new fiction or documentary in Asia that has been involved for many years. In Cardiff, the IAFT representative Sung Nam HAN’s video works were screened, talked and performed, and the UK artist’s art performances and video works curated by TactileBOSH. Deepened exchange between Japan and Britain.
